This story, sent to me by a friend in the region, who knows some of the participants, is a perfect example of how media either intentionally or subconsciously simply cannot wrap their minds around remorseless, violent women.
Newmarket is one of the outermost suburbs of Toronto, with a population of 85K and a median household income of $115K. 84% of all residents live in homes they own. Affluent and comfortable. I would guess mostly white or Asian.
Like many smallish, affluent suburbs, kids have fuck all to do but invent rivalries and pretend their lives are much more grinding than they actually are. Two kids, from rival high schools (one Catholic and one public) got into a scruffle that apparently had to do with a public school girl rejecting the advances of a Catholic school boy.
The situation began late Saturday night when a boy from Sacred Heart Catholic Secondary School apparently made unwanted advances toward a young woman from Sir William Mulock Secondary School, said the father, who does not want to be identified due to concerns over his child’s safety.
When the advances were rejected, the boy allegedly suggested the woman was “bisexual”, he added.
That’s a pretty sanitized version of what likely looked more like:
Wanna Netflix and chill?
K bye bi
Hey, I wasn’t there, but it could happen. At any rate, the girl was apparently accused of batting for both teams and she didn’t much like it. So she drove to the Catholic school on her lunch break, intending to confront the boy who called her bisexual. Seriously, I had no idea this was such an insult.
Once there, the woman is alleged to have waited for the boy, before leaving the school with a relative in her car, driving straight through a group of nearby boys.
Although all managed to jump out of the way, one teenager was unable to get out of her path and was forced to jump up, landing on the hood of the car, the father said.
The driver apparently failed to stop, resulting in the boy rolling off, injuring his head and later being taken to hospital with a concussion, according to police, who were called at 12:37 p.m.
The reporter is trying his best to make this sound like a little bit of awkwardness, but the chick plowed her car through a group of young men who had to hurl themselves out of the way. If you want to see what that looks like, watch this car plow through Ferguson protesters. It’s no joke. People can end up dead rather easily.
One kid can’t get out of the way, gets thrown up onto the roof of the car and then rolls off, hitting his head on the pavement. This is pretty serious stuff. But the newspaper article insists on focusing on a subsequent fight that involved a knife and a BB gun, neither of which were used. By the end of the article, it’s clear someone is going to be facing serious criminal charges, but the story doesn’t clearly indicate who that will be. At best, a tepid nod is given towards the young woman:
“No matter what was said to her, it doesn’t give her the right to plow into students. They are just words. It’s very concerning that she would be driven to this type of anger as a result of this incident. The most concerning for me is she didn’t stop (the car).”
[The anonymous father who fears for his child’s safety] would like to see a lecture at both schools about how to properly deal with one’s emotions, he said.
“This is serious business. This girl is 18 now. This could result in… charges,” he added.
It’s really quite flabbergasting to read this article and picture the events going down. Some little bitch who took offense to be called a bisexual drove to a different high school on her lunch hour and plowed her car through a group of young men who may or may not have had anything to do with her anger. At best, one boy was involved and the rest were innocent.
Imagine the reverse! Just try. An 18 year old boy, mad because some girl at a nearby high school suggested he liked taking the D drives his car over to her school on his lunch hour and plows through a group of girls, putting one in the hospital with a concussion.
What would that headline look like?
TOXIC MASCULINITY RUNS DOWN INNOCENT FLOWERS IN THE PRIME OF THEIR LIVES IN AN ACT OF VIOLENT MISOGYNY BAN ALL MEN FROM DRIVING CARS
A lot of the conversation around domestic violence, or just violence in general, focuses on unequal outcomes when it’s men against women, and there is a great deal of truth to that. I’m a skilled fighter and I know how to throw a punch and I’m very strong for a woman, but an average 15 year old boy is stronger and faster than I am. I might beat him on technique, but up against an equally skilled opponent, I’m dead. I don’t stand a chance.
Add a weapon and all that changes. If the weapon is a fucking car, it makes not a whit of difference whether a man or a woman is driving. Yet we are still stuck in that mentality that prefers to excuse violent women because they generally can’t affect the same damage as a man.
This young lady is lucky she didn’t kill one of those boys, but sadly, even if she had, she would face little, if any, punishment for that. The boys are infinitely luckier that she’s an incompetent driver. They’re alive. We are at the juncture of gender equality when women are going to have to choose: equal or special? You can’t be both, and there are huge downsides to both. It’s nice to be special, but special means being left on the sidelines when we are not qualified to be present, whether that means the C-suite, a deep sea oil rig, the International Space Station or armed combat. Being equal has downsides, too. It means armed combat, getting back in equal measures what you dish out, sharing children equally and taking equal punishment for transgressions.
Special is the better deal, but equality is the fairer one.
Any woman who values justice values equality, under the law. Justice requires us to surrender our many female privileges. Including the right to run down men when one of them pisses us off.
I hope this young woman faces attempted murder charges and I hope she’s convicted. The odds of that happening are slim to fucking none. That’s quite a patriarchy you’ve built there, gentlemen. Young ladies get to run innocent men down with cars and still consider themselves the victim.
I encourage my readers to go over to the York Region website and leave some comments. Let them know exactly how we feel about this story. Give them a taste of gender equality.
Let’s see how they like it.
Lots of love,
