Well, folks, this little beaver is gonna be mighty busy for the next little while. I have thirty thousand applications for the Yiannapoulos Privilege Grant to sort through.
Incredible! From Breitbart:
The grant, which opened its applications in January, is available “exclusively to white men who wish to pursue their post-secondary education on equal footing with their female, queer and ethnic minority classmates.”
Successful candidates will be granted $2,500 towards their post-secondary education, with money funded by MILO as well as private donors.
Grant Selection Committee Chair Janet Bloomfield, said that “the phenomenal application rate is the best indicator we could have hoped for that the Grant is desperately needed.”
White working-class males are underrepresented in higher education. This has been widely documented in both the U.S and the U.K, where the demographic’s declining rate of enrolment is now attracting concern from universities themselves.
One of my favorite authors, mysteriously beloved by feminists although she was nothing of the kind, Jane Austen, has a lovely line in Mansfield Park in which she sums up the tight marriage market of the Regency Period quite nicely: there are not so many men of large fortune as their are pretty girls to deserve them.
I sort of feel the same way about the Grant. There are not so many privilege grants to bestow as there are underprivileged, white men to deserve them. I am certain that I will read and view applications that will make me laugh, male me cry, break my heart. I am looking forward to the process of coming to understand who has applied, and what the specific needs of these minority students are in detail, but I am not looking forward to ultimately narrowing the field to only ten.
The grant is open until midnight EST on February 14th, 2017. Join thirty thousand other young white men, and apply!
