I have some pretty exciting news for readers, about a project I was recently invited to get on board with! It involves the most fabulous supervillian on the internet, and I’m excited to be part of it, and also quite gratified, since it’s such an important project, too. It involves a ton of bitch work, which is not hard to do, but quite time-consuming. There are a couple reasons I have been slow to post lately, but that’s a big one!
In the meantime, enjoy this post! I think it’s quite well-written!
It’s weird to think that we’re still caught up with the gender equality issue in the 21st century. And regardless of which side of the debate you find yourself on, it’s clear that it’s on the silver screen where most of us find our biggest cause for argument.
Discrepancies in pay between male and female actors may be one thing, but surely we can all recognise that it’s women rather than men who are causing more of a splash in the headlines.
Whilst the current range of male heavyweight actors seem to be pretty generic, our leading ladies seem to be a bit more willing to create a stir. Take Jennifer Lawrence who’s not only had the audacity to suggest that women should get the same amount of money as men, but she also took offence to adolescent hackers stealing some intimate photographs from her iCloud account.
Lawrence almost seemed surprised that this could happen, but as the nether regions of the internet seems to be populated largely be Reddit trolls, this is surely not an alarming new trend and it certainly won’t have harmed her skyrocketing Hollywood career.
Angelina Jolie seemed to be happy to appease adolescent fantasies by dressing up as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movies whilst taking home another multi-million dollar fee. And with Lara Croft even appearing in a Tomb Raider slots game at Red Flush online casino Canada, it’s clear that anyone wanting to even play casino games on a smartphone is going to get inundated with this supposedly ‘sexist’ imagery.
Perhaps it’s just because people like something to complain about that makes the issue of how women are portrayed such a hot topic. But with Milla Jovovich set to return to our cinemas as the lead character in the gaming adaptation Resident Evil, are we really going to get another endless series of complaints about how she didn’t get paid as much as she could have compared to the leading actors?
If Red Flush Casino decided to include a Resident Evil slots game then we would probably see even more self-appointed judges claiming that this is another indication of our moral bankruptcy. But surely it’s up to the actresses to decide how they want to be portrayed, and similarly, if someone wants to play some simple casino games from their smartphone, then why not let them?
Above all, it’s about not just following the herd and bowing down to the supposed liberal ideologies. This is why the current wave of leading ladies in Hollywood and the current generation of casino games have a chance of broadening the way that women are viewed in the media in a way that’s not dictated by supposedly ‘right on’ thinking.
